Frank Dominates as Blazers Slip Past UST 47-46

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team remains undefeated at home after slipping past the University of St. Thomas 47-46 tonight.

CSB jumped to a 6-0 lead in the first 2:30 of the game and stayed ahead until UST tied the game at 14 with ten minutes remaining in the half.  The Tommies continued to pull ahead, stretching their lead to 28-19 heading into the locker room.

The second half started with a 7-0 run, bringing UST ahead 35-19 in the initial 4:30 minutes.  The Blazers, however, hung on, slowly chipping away at the Tommies lead and finally pulling ahead 42-41 with 2:30 left on the clock.

The game came down to the wire as UST took back the lead 44-42 in just another 30 seconds.  Sophomore Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer) answered with the Blazers' sole three-pointer, inching ahead 45-44.  The Tommies then sunk two freethrows, making the score 46-45.  Sophomore post Danielle Frank (Caledonia, MN, Caledonia) then made two key plays in the final 50 seconds.  She first stole the ball off of the perimeter, and the very next play grabbed her sixth offensive rebound of the night and drained the put-back.  The Blazers won 47-46.

Frank shined on the floor, leading the Blazers with 14 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 blocked shots.  Senior forward Ariel Tauer (Edina, MN, Edina) and Stifter contributed had seven points.  Tauer also had four assists.

The Blazers travel to St. Peter, Minn., on Sat., Feb. 21 to play their final regular season game against Gustavus Adolphus at 3 p.m.  CSB earned a bye in the first round of MIAC playoffs and will host the second round on Thur. Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
