Schumacher Shines as Blazer Volleyball Picks Up Another Win

The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (23-5 overall, 9-1 MIAC) picked up another win against St .Catherine University 3-1, heading into the last regular season match tied for first with St. Thomas.

The Blazers kicked off the first set with a 6-2 lead before the Wildcats tied the score at six.  The score was again tied at 10 before before CSB began to pull ahead of St. Catherine, finally winning 25-21.

The second set was dominated by the Blazers as they jumped 10-5 and 19-9 leads.  They hit a stunning .542 hitting percentage, winning 25-18.

CSB struggled in the third set as St. Catherine picked up a 12-7 lead, continuing to extend that margin to defeat the Blazers 25-16.

The Blazers fell behind 10-6 in the final set, but battled back to tie the score at 12.  They slowly inched ahead of the Wildcats, finding a 25-21 win.

Junior right side hitter Kayli Schumacher (East Grand Forks, MN, Sacred Heart) reigned the court, picking up a season-high 25 kills with a tremendous .564 hitting percentage.  Senior outside hitter Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing) contributed 12 kills and 23 digs fo the Blazers.  Senior setter Beth Hanson (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) had 51 assists.

The Blazers host Concordia on Sat., Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. for their last regular season match.  CSB has earned an MIAC playoff berth, which begins next week.  Watch the Blazer website for updates on playoff matches and locations.
