The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (20-5 overall, 6-1 MIAC) defeated Macalester College 3-0 this evening on their annual Dig Pink Day.
Dig Pink is a fundraiser that the CSB volleyball team participates in each season for the Side Out Foundation, an organization that aids in the fight against breast cancer. The Blazers wore pink socks and played with a pink volleyball in support of the fight against breast cancer.
CSB started the first set a little rocky, maintaining a minimal lead over Macalester before the score was tied at eight. The Blazers then jumped a 7-2 run over the Scots, keeping a decent margin before winning 25-18.
The Blazers kept up their momentum in the second set, jumping ahead 10-5 and 20-10 before finally winning 25-12.
The third set was much like the second, with 10-5 and 20-8 Blazer leads before the clinched the win with a final score of 25-10.
The Blazers kept the Scots to a minimal .024 hitting percentage while hitting .322 themselves. CSB was led by senior outside hitter
Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing) and junior right side hitter
Kayli Schumacher (East Grand Forks, MN, Sacred Heart), who each had 10 kills, as well as .333 and .412 hitting percentages respectively. Senior setter
Beth Hanson (Faribault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) added 37 assists.
CSB hosts matches on Fri., Oct. 23 against St. Olaf at 7 p.m. and Sat., Oct. 24 against Gustavus at 3 p.m. on Family Weekend.
