Blazers Slide Past Augsburg 67-42

The College of Saint Benedict basketball team remains perfect at home after defeating Augsburg 67-42 tonight.

Augsburg started the game with a quick 6-2 lead in the first three minutes, but CSB came right back and clenched the lead 7-6 two minutes later.  The Auggies tied the game twice at the 14 and 12 minute marker, but never regained the lead.  Senior Ariel Tauer (Edina, MN, Edina) helped the Blazers inch ahead by contributing 10 of her game-high 13 points in the first half.  CSB headed to the locker room with a 12-point cushion, leading 33-21.

Both teams exchanged basket for basket in the next five minutes, but the Blazers' depth prevailed as ten players scored in the second half.  The CSB bench players scored 29 points compared to the Augsburg bench's total of six points throughout the game, outscoring them 22-4 in the second half alone.  The Blazers went on to win 67-42.

Tauer led the Blazers in scoring with 13 points, while sophomore Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer) was 3-for-7 from behind the arc and contributed 9 points to the win.  Sophomores Heather Gillund (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine) and Danielle Frank (Caledonia, MN, Caledonia) dominated the board with 10 and 8 rebounds respectively.  Frank also had seven blocked shots, bringing her total to 26.

The Blazers next take on Concordia on Sat., Jan. 10 at 3 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall.
