Blazers Defeat Rival Carleton 69-57

Consistency helped the College of Saint Benedict basketball team cruise past Carleton 69-57 this afternoon in Northfield, Minn.

The Blazers started the game off with a 4-2 lead, but the Knights closed that gap and jumped ahead 11-7 with 13 minutes left on the clock.  CSB then tied the score at 11 and grasped a lead of 13-11 in the next minute.  They maintained their lead for six minutes, but Carleton wouldn't back down, regaining their lead at 20-18 with 6:30 left.  The teams had five lead changes in the last four minutes of the half, but the Blazers held on 28-26 when the buzzer went off.

CSB started the half with an 11-4 run over the first three minutes, and kept up that lead for the remainder of the game.  The Blazers held a lead of six points or more over the next 17 minutes, outscoring Carleton 41-31 and finishing the game 69-57 for their second consecutive road game win.

Junior wing Mindy Schmidt (Brooklyn Park, MN, Champlin Park) was 5-for-7 from beyond the 3-point line, leading the Blazers in scoring with 19 points.  Senior forward Ariel Tauer (Edina, MN, Edina) also had 16 points, three assists, and three steals.  Sophomore wing Amy Stifter (Watertown, MN, Watertown-Mayer) added 11 points and added three 3-pointers to the team total of 11.

Up next the CSB returns home on Wed., Jan. 28 to face St. Kate's at 7:30 p.m.
