The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (12-3 overall, 1-0 MIAC) put in a great showing at the first day of the Simpson Tournament, squeaking by Nebraska Wesleyan, 3-2 and defeating Wartburg 3-0.
The Blazers had a tall task against Nebraska Wesleyan. CSB started off well, winning the first two sets 25-22 and 25-18. But the PrairieWolves came back strong, taking the next two sets 22-25 and 18-25. The last set went to the wire, but the Blazers wound up on top, claiming the set and the match 16-14.
CSB started the day against Wartburg and wasted no time setting a strong tone for the tournament. Saint Benedict had their way against the Knights in the first set, prevailing 25-13. Wartburg started getting to the Blazers in the second set, but CSB won 26-24. Saint Benedict finally put the match away with a strong 25-21 victory.
Saint Benedict finishes off the tournament on September 20, against Principia at 12 p.m. and facing host Simpson at 2 p.m.
