Years at CSB: 10 as head coach - also served as an assistant tennis coach at CSB for five years
Scott Larsen enters his 10
th season as the head tennis coach and 15
th season overall at the College of Saint Benedict in 2015-16.
Larsen, a two-time MIAC Coach of the Year, led a young Blazer squad to an 8-12 overall

record and a 5-5 MIAC mark in 2014-15. The Blazers finished the season in sixth place in the conference, and they lost to Carleton in the quarterfinals of the league’s postseason tournament.
CSB went on a five-match winning streak in the 2014-15 season that included wins against Bethel and Saint Mary’s to help secure the Blazers’ spot in the league tournament.
Three Blazer athletes earned All-MIAC honors in 2014-15. Junior Daley Rupar was honored for the third straight year after earning All-MIAC singles and doubles accolades. Junior Rachel Raden earned All-MIAC recognition for her doubles play and sophomore Laura Finn won All-MIAC singles accolades.
Larsen earned MIAC Coach of the Year honors in 2013-14 after guiding the Blazers to a 13-10 overall record. CSB went 7-2 to start the season, and ended the year on a four-match winning streak. CSB took fifth in the MIAC with a 6-4 record.
Larsen picked up the 100
th win of his career on March 22 when the Blazers beat Bemidji State 9-0 in Sioux Falls, S.D. In nine years at CSB, Larsen is 113-76 overall and 55-35 in the MIAC. The Blazers have recorded winning seasons in eight of his nine seasons, and finished in the top four in the conference in six of the last nine years.
Larsen was also named MIAC Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading CSB to a 13-7 overall record and a 7-3 record and a tie for third in the conference. Larsen’s best season came in 2009 when CSB won nine matches.
In nine years, Larsen has coached 27 All-MIAC athletes and one All-American. In Larsen’s first season in 2007, Megan Tiegs went 2-1 at the NCAA Division III National Championships and advanced to the national quarterfinals before losing to the eventual national runner-up.
Prior to taking over as head coach, Larsen served as the Blazers’ assistant coach for five years. From 1996-2006 he was also the head boys’ tennis coach at Sartell high School, and he also served as the Sartell girls’ head tennis coach from 1996-2003 and again in 2005.
Larsen served as a teaching professional at the St. Cloud Tennis Center from 1992-2000, and then at Gold’s Gym in St. Cloud from 2005-06.
Larsen earned a Bachelor of Science in special education from St. Cloud State University in 1999. He played tennis collegiately for the Huskies where he competed at No. 1 singles and doubles. Larsen was a three-time conference champion and was ranked regionally in both singles and doubles. Larsen completed a Master of Arts from Concordia-St. Paul in 2009.
As well as coaching at CSB, Larsen is also a teacher in the area. He has served as the owner and director of Travel Tennis Camps for the past 10 years, and he is a USPTA teaching professional.
Larsen and his wife, Liz – a 1999 CSB graduate – live in Maple Grove, Minn., with their two daughters.
