ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Kendall Koenen had a perfect week in net last week.
In 200 minutes in goal, the sophomore goalie for the College of Saint Benedict soccer team didn’t give up a single goal. Two scoreless games helped CSB finish the week with one win and a double overtime tie, and stay in the top four in the conference standings.
For her week, Koenen has been named this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
Koenen and her teammates started the week with a Tuesday game against St. Kate’s. A goal by Sydney Bramer early in the second half helped put CSB up 1-0, but Koenen’s play in net kept the Wildcats off the board. She finished the game with four saves, including two in the first 20 minutes of play.
After recording the win and the shutout Tuesday, Koenen was back in net Saturday, and ended playing all 110 minutes of the double overtime tie. She finished that game with seven shots, including three early in the game and five total in the first half.
Koenen finished the week with 11 saves to bring her season total to 57 – good for fifth in the MIAC. She also owns a .838 save percentage and a 0.93 goals-against average.
With three games left in the regular season, Koenen and CSB are tied for fourth in the MIAC with a 4-4-2 conference record. CSB – which is 8-2-2 overall – hosts Hamline Saturday before traveling to Macalester next week. Saint Benedict hosts Carleton Saturday, Oct. 28, to end the regular season.
