ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Kiley Green seems to be hitting her stride – literally and figuratively – at the right time for the College of Saint Benedict track and field team this season.
In each of CSB’s first four meets of the season, Green ran in one race each meet. In three of those four meets, she ran a top-10 time in school history in those races. Friday night at St. Olaf, Green ran the best race of her career – and in school history.
In the last meet before the MIAC Indoor Championships, Green ran a 10-second personal best and set the school record in the 3,000-meter run at the St. Olaf Ole Open. She won the race, and is ranked fourth in the MIAC. For her big night, Green has been named the CSB Athlete of the Week.
Green, a senior from Draper, Utah, finished the 3K in 10:22.30 Friday night. That time bests the previous record – set in 2005 by Leah Wurm – by just over one full second. It is also better than Green’s previous personal best – which she ran Feb. 5 at Macalester – by just under 10 seconds. That time of 10:32.11 was fourth-best in school history.
Heading into the MIAC Championships, Green is in the top 10 in all three races she’s competed in so far this season: the mile, 3K and 5,000-meter run. Her mile time of 5:17.66, run Feb. 13 at SJU, is sixth in the conference and in CSB indoor history. Green also ran a career-best time of 18:26 in the 5K Feb. 20 at SJU. That time is fifth-best in CSB history and sixth in the MIAC.
Green looks to continue her string of top-10 performances this weekend at the conference indoor championships. She took 17
th in the 3K at the 2015 indoor championships in 10:44.267. The 2016 championships run March 4-5 at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
