Madeline Wethington is in her first year as a volunteer assistant coach at Saint Benedict.

Wethington is from Edina, Minn., and played high school hockey at The Blake School, where she won three state championships and was named Minnesota’s Ms. Hockey.

She went on to compete for five years as a defenseman at the University of Minnesota, finishing second all-time in career games played and becoming just the seventh defenseman in program history to record 100 career points.

A decorated student-athlete, she was named a First-Team Academic All-American, received the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and B1G Ten Conference Postgraduate Scholarship, and earned numerous athletic honors including four All-WCHA Team selections, two WCHA All-Tournament Team selections, and the 2020 WCHA Rookie of the Year.

Wethington also competed internationally with Team USA on both the collegiate and U18 women’s national teams, winning three U18 World Championship gold medals and serving as assistant captain. She was drafted 38th overall by the Ottawa Charge in the Professional Women’s Hockey League but chose to pursue her dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. She is now a first-year student at the University of Minnesota Medical School and serves as the College of Saint Benedict’s video coach for the defense.
