Biography

2020-21: Competed in four meets as a junior in a COVID-shortened season ... recorded eight top five finishes, including four wins ... won the 50 free and 100 backstroke at the Hamline dual.

2019-20: Qualified for the MIAC Championships in the 50 free and 100 and 200 backstroke ... earned All-MIAC in the 100 backstroke for the second straight year after taking third ... also earned All-MIAC Honorable Mention in the 200 back after taking sixth ... finished 20th in the 50 free in a career-best time of 25.20 seconds ... finished her sophomore season with 12 top-two finishes, including a win in the 100 backstroke at the Minnesota Challenge ... won eight total events and swept the 100 and 200 back at two meets ... earned Academic All-MIAC honors.

2018-19: Set three school records and earned a pair of All-MIAC honors as a first year ... named the team's co-Rookie of the Year ... qualified for the MIAC Championships in the 100 and 200 backstroke and 50 freestyle ... finished second in the 200 backstroke and third in the 100 backstroke to earn All-MIAC in both events ... also took 14th in the 50 free ... set the school record in the 100 and 200 backstroke at the conference meet ... set the school record in the 100 IM in the first meet of her collegiate career ... also part of the 200 and 400 medley relay teams that swam top-10 times in program history at the conference championships.

High School: Von Wahlde is a 2018 graduate of Melrose Area High School. She took part in swimming for six years and synchronized swimming for six years. She has won many of awards throughout her career, including Hardest Worker in swimming (2016), Most Valuable Swimmer (2017), All-Area Swim Team (2015-17), and All-State Swim Team (2016, 2017). The proudest moment of her career was breaking a 32-year-old record in the 100-yard backstroke. It was her first individual record and had been a goal of hers since she was little.

Personal: VonWahlde is the daughter of John and Sandy VonWahlde and she has two brothers, Cody and Jared. If Mikayla is not in the pool, she’s either singing, playing the guitar or piano, outside, or on the lake. She is a communications major at CSB/SJU and looks forward to being able to continue her passion for the sport all while being surrounded by people equally as passionate about it.
