High School: A 2009 graduate of Gonzaga Preparatory School, Pennings was coached by Bob Wood, Dan Taylor, Rich Svoboda and Joe Feryn. She participated in swimming and diving (four years) and track (3 years) during her athletic career at Gonzaga Preparatory. Pennings is a four-year swimming state meet participant and one-year state track meet participant. She was a nominee for North Idaho Swimmer of the Year award and a school record holder in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly. Pennings holds the school record in the 200m dash.
Personal: Pennings is the daughter of Terese Fandel and John Pennings of Hayden Lake, ID. Her grandfather and uncle attended SJU. Pennings enjoys music and art. She is majoring in peace studies/pre-dental.
What is your proudest moment of your career?
"I was incredibly proud when I broke my school records; it felt really good to know that some of my accomplishments would be remembered long after the season or even after my time at high school was ended."
What do you like about being a collegiate student-athlete?
"I am very excited to be a part of such a close-knit and focused team. It will be a great break from studying and also something that will normalize my schedule."
