College of Saint Benedict Athletics

Matthew Richmond is in his fifth season with the College of Saint Benedict hockey team. He works primarily with the goalies.

Richmond helped the Bennies goalies to the best season in program history, posting a school-record 16 wins after finishing 16-8-4. CSB claimed its first MIAC Playoff Championship to make the program's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Richmond helped coach first-year Lexi Badali, who became the team's first-ever All-American in the program's 38-year existence, as she was named a DIIIHockeyNews.com First Team All-American. Badali also became the first Bennie to earn DIIIHockeyNews.com national All-Rookie team honors. CSB ended the 2025-26 season in the top 25 in eight statistical categories: ninth in short-handed goals (4); 21st in goals (76) and scoring offense (2.71 gpg); 22nd in winning percentage (0.643); 23rd in assists (104) and team points (180); and 24th in scoring margin (+0.82) and team shutouts (4).

Richmond made his way up to Saint Cloud when he attended Saint Cloud State University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education. He is currently a Physical Education teacher in the Saint Cloud school district. 

Matthew has been coaching in the Saint Cloud area for over nine years. Matthew is in his seventh season as the goalie coach for the Saint Cloud Crush girl's hockey team. He has also been involved with the High-Performance Spring festival in 2022 and helped out with the Dave Peterson Camp.
