Alex Hess begins his sixth season as an assistant coach for the College of Saint Benedict in 2017-18, working with the CSB goaltenders.
In 2015-16, Hess helped first year goalie Angel Hillstrom set the school record for save percentage in a season at .929. In each of his first three seasons, Hess guided goalie Jenna Traut to All-Conference Honorable Mention honors. She graduated with the school record for career save percentage (.907).
Hess is a 2011 graduate of Upper Iowa University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in sports and exercise science with a minor in biology.
While at UIU, he played soccer for three seasons as a goalkeeper for the NCAA Division II Peacocks. Hess was also active in the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC), Honors and Awards Committee and was a Student Ambassador. He was the Greek Council president as well as secretary of the Alpha Nu Omega Fraternity.
A St. Cloud, Minn. native, Hess spent his prep career at St. Cloud Cathedral High School where he participated in soccer and hockey. He was named team MVP and was selected to the all-conference and all-area teams in hockey. Hess was a two time all-conference selection, named all-state and a two time member of the all-area team in soccer.
He is also the head boy’s soccer coach at Sauk Rapids/Rice high school.
