Rachael Click begins her 13th year head coach with the College of Saint Benedict softball team.
Under Click’s guidance, CSB has gone 323-170 (.656). In MIAC play, she has led CSB to a 176-84 mark or a winning mark of .668. In each of her 13 full seasons, CSB has won 20 or more games. Prior to the COVID-shortened 2020 season, the team finished 27-15 overall and earned a second straight at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2019 – just the fourth in program history.
In 2025, St. Benedict recorded a 26-13 with a 17-5 MIAC record for second place in the league. During the season - February 28 - Click won her 300th game in a 5-1 win over Spalding University in Columbus, Ga. The Bennies were seeded No. 2 in the MIAC Playoffs and finished 1-1 with a 3-2 win over St. Olaf in the semifinals before a 5-3 loss to No. 11 Saint Mary's in the playoff championship.
In 2024, the Bennies finished 26-19 and with 17-5 MIAC record tied for the conference title and its first since 1994. CSB reached the NCAA Tournament, advancing the regional title game. The Bennies had a third team All-American in Olivia Tautges, who was the MIAC Player of the Year. Ellie Peterson was named the MIAC Pitcher of the Year. Tautges (1st team) and Tori Benson (3rd team) were named to the NFCA All-Region Team. Tautges, Peterson, Benson, Bryn Carlstrom, Maddy Kubik, and Cat Smetana were named first-team All-MIAC while Megan Erickson was honorable mention All-MIAC. Carlstrom, Peterson and Smetana were named CSC Academic All-District.
In 2023, the Bennies finished 26-8 with a 16-6 mark for second in the MIAC. Saint Ben's, which advanced to the MIAC Tournament Championship, was ranked as high as No. 13 in the NFCA standings and was regionally ranked. Gabby Spencer earned third team All-American as she was a two-time honoree from the NFCA. CSB had eight players earn All-MIAC honors, including six named to the first team. Three players earned selected to the All-MIAC Playoff Team. In addition, Spencer (first team, 3rd straight selection), Elly Novak (second team, 3rd straight selection) and Cat Smetana (third team, first selection) were named NFCA All-Region. Ellie Peterson was named MIAC Rookie of the Year and named the TUCCA/NFCA Freshman of the Year for Region IX.
In 2018, the team set the school record for wins in a season with a 36-10 overall record and earned the program’s first bid to the NCAA Tournament since 1994. CSB finished 27-13 overall in 2017 and went 16-6 in the MIAC and tied for third. Click finished 22-18 in both 2015 and 2016. In 2014, Click guided CSB to its best season in 10 years with a 28-11 overall record. Lexi Alm was named MIAC Player of the Year and an NFCA Second Team All-American – the first in program history.
Click has coached 42 All-MIAC athletes, 18 All-MIAC Honorable Mention selections, 24 All-Region athletes (ninefirst team, nine second team and six third-team selections), four total All-Americans, three MIAC Players of the Year, four MIAC Rookies of the Year and one MIAC Pitcher of the Year.
Click came to CSB from Jacksonville University where she served as an assistant coach for the Dolphins for two seasons. Prior to coaching at JU, she was an assistant at Wisconsin-Eau Claire for the 2010 season.
A 2009 Gustavus Adolphus College graduate with a degree in elementary education, Click earned Cum Laude Honors in addition to her decorated softball career.
A four-year star for the Gusties, Click was named MIAC Rookie of the Year in 2006 and received all-conference honors in all four seasons. A team captain during her senior season, she was named MIAC Player of the Year and earned All-America honors and a spot on the NCAA Championship All- Tournament team. In the 2009 season, Click led the Gusties to a MIAC title and an NCAA Regional Championship, finishing a game shy of the national championship.
Click holds Gustavus’ single-season records in batting average, slugging percentage, home runs, RBIs and total bases. She also holds career records in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, home runs, RBIs and total bases.
Click was named Gustavus’ Female Athlete of the Year in 2009 and is an NCAA Post Graduate Scholar. A well-rounded student-athlete, she is also a two-time ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American. She currently resides in Maple Grove.
