2023: In February of 2024, named USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete of the Year for Cross Country...won the NCAA DIII Championship in cross country in a record time of 19:55.1...then Smith won each of the seven races she competed in and set a course record at every meet ... broke school records three times... captured the MIAC individual title for the third straight year (19:55.1 - the best 6k clocking in MIAC history) ... became the first CSB runner in school history to win three consecutive MIAC Athlete of the Year honors ... ...captured her third consecutive NCAA DIII North Region individual title with a 6k time of 20:42.2 on Nov. 11, in Colfax, Wis, winning the race by 25 seconds, becoming the first in MIAC history to do so ... captured her first NCAA DIII cross country title at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Nov. 18, in Newville, PA., running a time of 19:54.1, setting a championship record, and becoming the first-ever in DIII history to run a sub-20 minute 6k at a championship meet ... captured the first NCAA DIII cross country title in CSB history and the eighth in MIAC history ... 2021: Became the fifth All-American in program history and first since 2005 thanks to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships on Nov. 20 ... second top-five national finisher in program history ... won the NCAA North Region meet on Nov. 13 in a school-record time of 20:57.24 ... named USTFCCCA North Region Athlete of the Year ... first region champion and region athlete of the year in program history ... won the MIAC individual title and was named MIAC Athlete of the Year ... third MIAC individual champ in CSB history ... set the CSB 5K record in 17:48.11 on Sept. 11 at Luther ... finished in the top five in all eight races she competed in and won five ... received an Academic All-MIAC award for the 2021 cross country season.
2020-21: Competed in the St. Kate's Relays in mid-March ... teamed up with Tracy Renier to win the 5.6-mile relay in 35:10.2 ... the official 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID19 pandemic and condensed into a short season in March 2021.
High School: A 2020 graduate of Dhahran High School, Smith competed in cross country and track for seven years and basketball for four. For cross country, she was awarded MVP, Rookie of the Year, all state North Dakota, all conference in AASCA conference. For track, she was awarded all conference in AASCA, MVP, and rookie of the year. She also competed in basketball for four years and was awarded MVP and offensive player. She also competed for Joud running. Her proudest moment was running in the first ever race for women in Saudi Arabia.
Personal: The daughter of Katie and Michael Smith, Fiona has two siblings, Connor and Brigid. Several of her family members - including both parents and siblings - have attended CSB/SJU. Her hobbies include playing sports, baking, spending time with family, and traveling. She likes being a collegiate student-athlete because it keeps her involved in the college community. She is majoring in Math and minoring in Computer Science and Hispanic Studies.
