ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Sophomore Lauren Freeberg (Rogers, Minn.) of the No. 19 College of Saint Benedict softball team (36-11), who hit .444 and earned all-regional tourney honors at the NCAA DIII Regional in Simpson, Iowa, has been named The House / St. Cloud Orthopedics CSB Athlete of the Week.

 

Freeberg hit .444 (8-of-18) during the regional with eight hits, eight RBI, a home run and two doubles while posting a .722 slugging percentage and .474 on-base percentage. She was one of three CSB players named to the NCAA DIII Regional All Tournament Team. Ellie Peterson (St. Anthony Village, Minn.) and Lily Treml (Shakopee, Minn.) also were named to the team.

At the regional, Freeberg recorded RBIs in four of the five games CSB played and had two or more RBI three times. In addition, she had hits in four of five games with multi-hit games three times as the Bennies had a 3-2 record. In a 12-6 setback to No. 10 Simpson, Freeberg had a double, home run and three RBI. She also had three hits and two RBI in a 4-0 win over Central. Freeburg added a hit and RBI in a 4-3 win over No. 10 Simpson as the Bennies forced a second championship game at the regional.

Earlier today (May 18), Freeberg earned honorable mention All-MIAC honors for the first time. During the 2026 season, she hit .341 with a 1.035 OPS, second best on the team, while totaling 42 hits, eight doubles, four triples and seven home runs. Her four triples ranked second in the MIAC, while her seven home runs tied for fourth.

Freeberg also drove in 39 runs, ranking fourth in the conference and sixth on the CSB single-season list. She added a .393 on-base percentage and .642 slugging percentage, which ranked 10th in the MIAC. This year, she had 12 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games, including five with three or more RBI.
