Drew Buslee
Buslee guided Saint Benedict to the title in a historic inaugural season, accounting for four total touchdowns—three receiving and one on defense—as CSB defeated St. Olaf in the semifinals and rallied for a 26-20 come-from-behind win over Concordia in the championship game at TCO Stadium. With the two wins on Saturday, the Bennies finished the season at 7-1 with only a two-point loss in regular season play preventing an unbeaten first season.
In the title game, Buslee (Eagan, Minn.) played a key role in a 20-point second-half surge after Saint Benedict trailed, 20-6. The comeback marked CSB's second win over the Cobbers this season, following a 13-6 victory at the Saint Benedict Jamboree.
First-year
Nora Schmidt (Shoreview, Minn.) threw two touchdown passes to Buslee in the championship, including the game-winning score on a one-handed leaping catch in the end zone. Buslee also had an earlier touchdown reception and added a defensive score with her fifth interception of the season, returning it for her third pick-six of the year to spark the rally. Against St. Olaf, Buslee added another touchdown reception.
On the season, Buslee finished with 10 touchdown catches to go along with her defensive scores. She helped the Bennies close their first season with a 202-95 scoring advantage across eight games, averaging 25.25 points per game while allowing just 11.875, capping a championship run that sets the tone for the program's future.
