CSB Hockey skates to a 2-2 OT tie with UW-Superior on Friday

Bennies wins shootout, 2-0, on tallies by Lewis and Hargreaves

SUPERIOR, Wis. -- The College of Saint Benedict hockey team (5-2-3), which had goals by Merrill Delich and Presley Kraemer, and UW-Superior (1-10-1) skated to a 2-2 tie in overtime with the Bennies earning a 2-0 decision in the shootout at Superior, Wis. on Friday (Jan. 2).

In the shootout, senior Chloe Lewis (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and sophomore Camryn Hargreaves (Minnetrisa, Minn.) scored for the Bennies.

After a scoreless first period, the Bennies broke the deadlock as senior Presley Kraemer (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) scored the fourth goal of the season and 16th of her career at the 6:24 mark of the second period. On the goal, senior Jamie Bimberg (Chanhassen, Minn.) and senior Mia Lopez (Plymouth, Minn.) assisted on the play. Lopez had her third assist of the season and 16th of her career. For Bimberg, it was the fifth assist of her career.

At the 14:41 mark of the second period, UW-Superior tied the game on a goal by Ashton Parnell with assists from Jaelyn Wharton and Maya Anderson.

At 9:43 of the final period, sophomore Merrill Delich (Andover, Minn.) scored her third goal of the season and provided CSB with a 2-1 advantage on a power play. Sophomore Skylar Salscheider (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and Kraemer had assists on the goal. Salscheider now has two assists this year and 11 in her career.

With 37 seconds left, Taylee Marks had the game-tying goal and forced overtime after UW-Superior pulled its goalie and added an extra skater.

In the net, CSB's Sam Knutson (Chicago, Ill.) allowed just two goals with 23 saves in 62:22 on the ice. Savannah Wuitschick (Fargo, N.D.) did not allow a goal in 2:34 on the ice.

Overall, the Bennies held a 35-to-25 shots advantage, including a 14-7 margin in the second period. In terms of faceoffs, CSB won 48.4 percent with 31 wins. First-year Helena Siska (Naperville, Ill.) won 10-of-18 while Lopez was victorious in 9-of-15.
