ST. PETER, Minn. — The College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team captured six event titles and recorded 12 top three finishes but fell, 191-107, to Gustavus Adolphus in a dual meet Saturday at the Vic Gustafson Pool..
The Bennies found success on the diving boards, led by junior
Ella Kowalczyk (Minneapolis, Minn.), who placed second on the 3-meter board with a score of 376.25. Sophomore
Emma Netland (Moorhead, Minn.) followed in third with 350.45 points, while sophomore
Abby Stevens (St. Cloud, Minn.) placed fifth at 312.65. Kowalczyk also earned a third-place finish on the 1-meter board with 348.85 points, and Netland took fourth at 341.65.
CSB opened the swimming events with a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay, as
Mary Morris (St. Cloud, Minn.),
Megan Bartels (Highlands Ranch, Colo.),
Josey Larson (Hastings, Minn.) and
Anna Schottler (Chanhassen, Minn.) combined for a time of 1:53.88.
Morris later secured an individual victory in the 200 freestyle with a winning time of 2:00.09.
Sprint events highlighted a strong showing from Schottler, who claimed titles in both the 50 freestyle (25.14) and the 100 freestyle (55.26). Morris placed fourth in the 50 free at 25.80. Schottler also finished third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.73, followed closely by Larson in fourth (1:02.96) and first-year
Bella Kern (Delano, Minn.) in fifth (1:03.26).
Bartels swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.73 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.69. Kern placed third in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.54) and second in the 200 breaststroke (2:38.22), while first-year
Lydia Jostock (Delano, Minn.) took fifth in the 100 breaststroke at 1:14.46.
Larson earned another victory for the Bennies by winning the 200 butterfly in 2:16.74.
First-year
Izzy Green (Hastings, Minn.) added a third-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle, touching the wall in 11:55.15.
In the backstroke events, senior
Lauren Sitzman (Omaha, Neb.) finished fourth in the 100 backstroke at 1:04.76, with sophomore
Claire Canfield (Waconia, Minn.) close behind in sixth at 1:04.92. The 200 backstroke saw CSB place three swimmers in the top six, led by Canfield in fourth (2:20.20),
Josie Thomas (St. Paul, Minn.) in fifth (2:21.57) and Sitzman in sixth (2:22.54).
The Bennies also placed two swimmers in the top six of the 400 individual medley, with
Jayda Alholm (Little Falls, Minn.) finishing fourth in 5:13.41 and Green sixth in 5:13.67.
CSB closed the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, as Morris,
Ava Niksich (Hermantown, Minn.), Sitzman and Alholm combined for the final event.
Next for the CSB Swim and Dive Team will face Carleton in a dual on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Warner Palaestra Pool in Collegeville, Minn.
