ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- Record-breaking dual-sport athlete and standout student leader Sophia Jonas is the College of Saint Benedict's nominee for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year award.

An accounting major with a 3.904 GPA from Hudson, Wis., Jonas has made her mark in both basketball and tennis while embodying the NCAA's four pillars of excellence: academics, athletics, service, and leadership. She previously earned the CSB Presidential Award and is the first student-athlete in school history to receive five College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors — three in basketball and two in tennis.

Jonas was one of nine student-athletes nominated by MIAC institutions for the NCAA Woman of the Year and also considered for the DIIICA Women's Sport Student-Athlete of the Year, presented by Chi Alpha Sigma.

On the court, Jonas was a four-year starter and three-time All-MIAC selection in basketball. She broke both CSB and MIAC records with 264 career three-pointers, finishing with 1,154 points — 12th in program history. In tennis, she led the team as MVP and captain, playing at No. 1 singles and doubles and earning All-MIAC honors.

"Sophia's legacy is incredible," said CSB basketball coach Mike Durbin. "What she's achieved here is truly remarkable." Tennis coach Jack Bowe echoed the praise, calling Jonas "an all-star" and "a dedicated captain."

Off the court, Jonas served as co-president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, leading mental health advocacy and community service projects including food shelf support. She is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and has earned multiple Academic All-MIAC honors.

The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee will narrow the national pool to 30 top honorees in the coming months, with finalists announced in November. The 2025 NCAA Woman of the Year will be recognized at the NCAA Convention in January 2026 in Washington, D.C.
