ST. JOSEPH, Minn. –
Cat Smetana had six hits and six RBI,
Megan Erickson had four hits and both
Ellie Peterson and
Olivia Wallace each won their ninth game in the circle as the College of Saint Benedict softball team (21-13, 13-5 MIAC) rolled to a doubleheader sweep, 7-4, and 13-2 over College of St. Scholastica (10-24, 6-12 MIAC) on Saturday, April 26.
On a day when the CSB program recognized numerous alumnae and the 50-years of the program, CSB shined on the field. As a result, CSB, which has won four straight games improved to 21-13 overall with its 13-5 MIAC record placing CSB second in the league standings with four games to play. CSB leads St. Olaf (11-7) by two games and Macalester (10-8) and Bethel (10-8) by three games. On Sunday, CSB will face Gustavus (19-17, 9-9 MIAC) at 1/3 p.m., at the CSB Softball Field.
On the day, CSB had 23 hits in 54 at bats for a .426 average and .685 slugging mark. The Bennies total 20 runs, led by Smetana who had two triples, a double and three singles to go with her six RBI and 11 total bases. Smetana jumped her average to .429 on the season with a 1.091 OPS with a team-high 37 RBI.
Erickson, who is now hitting .295 on the season, was 4-of-6 with two runs and two RBI while
Olivia Van Hout and
Lily Treml both had three hits. In the circle, Peterson, Wallace, and
Addy Bowne combined for 12 strikeouts and a 2.33 earned run average in 12 innings of work.

Ellie Peterson earned her ninth win in the circle as CSB took a 7-4 win over the Saints.
CSB scored a run in the second inning, five in the fourth frame and one in the sixth inning for a 7-0 lead before CSS rallied late with four runs in the seventh inning. Aside from Smetana,
Lily Treml and
Bryn Ruhberg had two hits and an RBI while
Olivia Van Hout had two hits and an RBI to lead the offense.
Peterson (9-7) worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, two earned runs and recording five strikeouts.
Olivia Wallace earned the save by stopping a CSS rally in the seventh inning.
Game 2 – Saint Benedict 13 St. Scholastica 2 (5 innings)
In sweeping the doubleheader,
Cat Smetana,
Olivia Wallace Megan Erickson,
Izzy Guttenfelder and
Lily Treml led CSB to a 13-2 run-rule shortened win over St. Scholastica.
Smetana had three hits and four RBI while Guttenfelder had two hits, two runs and three RBI; Erickson had three hits, run scored and two RBI; and Treml added three runs scored and RBI. Also, for CSB
Lauren Freeberg had two hits, and a run scored while
Olivia Van Hout scored twice, had a hit and RBI.
CSB opened the scoring two runs in each of the first two innings for a 4-0 lead. Then, Bennies exploded for eight runs in the third inning, adding one in the fourth frame for a 13-0 lead. St. Scholastica scored two runs in the fifth inning before the contest ended by a run rule.

Olivia Wallace (9-4) earned her ninth win with a standout performance. She allowed just four hits and had six strikeouts across four innings,
Addy Bowne finished up for CSB, allowing two runs and two hits with a strikeout in her one inning of work.
