Peterson tosses shutout as CSB Softball earns split of MIAC DH with Macalester

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- Junior pitcher Ellie Peterson delivered another dominant performance, tossing her second straight complete-game shutout, to lead the College of Saint Benedict softball team (15-11 overall, 7-3 MIAC) to a doubleheader split against Macalester (19-9 overall, 6-4 MIAC) on Sunday, April 13 at the CSB Softball Field.

The Bennies took the opener in a thrilling 1-0 pitcher's duel, before falling, 6-3, in the second game. With the split, CSB held onto third place in the MIAC standings.

Game 1 – Saint Benedict 1, Macalester 0
In a tightly contested battle, Ellie Peterson outdueled Macalester's Martha Miller to secure a 1-0 win. Peterson allowed just two hits and struck out eight over seven shutout innings to pick up her seventh career shutout and 29th complete game. Miller, despite a strong effort, gave up just one hit and fanned three.

CSB broke through in the sixth inning. Bryn Ruhberg doubled, and after Alyssa Downhour advanced to third on a wild pitch, Lily Treml delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home the game's only run. The game lasted just 73 minutes and showcased top-tier pitching from both sides.

Game 2 – Macalester 6, Saint Benedict 3
Despite a strong offensive showing from Olivia Tautges, who went 3-for-3 with three RBI, the Bennies dropped the second game, 6-3, to the Scots.

Tautges tied the game at 2-2 in the third with a two-run double, but Macalester responded with a run in the fifth and pulled away with a three-run seventh inning. Tautges added another RBI on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh, but CSB couldn't complete the comeback.

CSB's Olivia Wallace (6-3) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts in four innings. Peterson came in for 2 2/3 innings of relief, while Addy Bowne recorded the final out. Macalester's Miller, who had lost Game 1, bounced back with a complete-game win in Game 2, improving to 8-3 on the season.

Peterson's Stellar Stretch
Over her last four appearances, Peterson has been lights out, going 3-1 with a 0.25 ERA, allowing just one earned run in 28 innings while striking out 21. Opponents are hitting just .135 against her during this stretch. She's now posted two shutouts in her last three outings.
