Game Preview -- With two games to play, CSB Hockey to face Concordia in home-and-home series Feb. 21-22

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- The College of Saint Benedict hockey team (11-9-3, 8-7-1 MIAC) will face Concordia-Moorhead (6-17-0, 5-11-0 MIAC) in a home-and-home series on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21-22. The Bennies will host the Cobbers on Senior Night at 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22 at Ritsche Arena. The two teams will also play on Friday (Feb. 21) in Moorhead, Minn.

CSB, directed by third year head coach Lindsay Macy, owns a 11-9-3 overall record with a 8-7-1 mark in the MIAC for sixth in the league with 23 points. The Bennies are battling for one of the five postseason spots in the MIAC playoffs. CSB (23 points) is two MIAC points behind St. Olaf (25). Following the final regular season game of the year on Saturday, CSB will honor its nine seniors, including Shauna Miller, Morgan Cromwell, Jenna Timm, Aurora Opsahl, Kate Moffat, Sami Boerboom, Ava Stinnett, Sydney Hunst, and Emma Rooks.

Notes – Concordia-Moorhead
In his second season as head coach, Jason Gregoire, who played collegiately for Concordia in 1999-00 and 2000-01, has led the Cobbers to a 6-17-0 overall record with a 5-11-0 MIAC mark. Through 23 games, Concordia been outscored, 81-to-46 and outshot, 707-to-503. They averaged 23.2 shots per game with  an 10.7 conversion rate on power powers(8-of-75). The team has 626 saves, led by 514 from Ashlea Arvidson. The team is led in scoring as Jerica Friese and Morgan Sauvageau both have nine goals.

Series Notes
CSB trails in the all-time series, 13-30-8, but owns five straight wins. In the last matchup, CSB took a 5-4 win on Nov. 11, 2023. The Bennies sit 4-12-4 all-time against the Cobbers at home and have an 8-15-4 road mark with a 12-29-7 league record. In the first matchup, CSB lost a 6-5 decision on Jan. 14, 2000.

Notes on CSB – By the Numbers
Through 23 games, St. Benedict has totaled 70 goals (3.0) and allowed 60 (2.6). The Bennies have outshot their opponents, 756-to-616. In goal, CSB has 548 saves, with opponents at 679. In power plays, CSB has a 31.1% (14-of-45) power play rate while their opponents sit at 25.6% (20-of-78). CSB has won 719 face-offs and lost 668 for a 51.8 %-win rate.

Senior Aurora Opsahl has scored 15 points while sophomore Shae Stinnett is second with 14. After scoring goals four of the past six games, including against both No. 3 Gustavus and No.4 Augsburg, Opsahl has 37 career goals which is sixth all-time at CSB.  She has totaled 71 (37G, 34A) points, which also places her seventh all-time at CSB. Senior Jenna Timm is third in scoring with 13 points, including six goals and seven assists. She scored the game winning goal in overtime as the Bennies upset No. 4 Augsburg, 4-3, on Feb. 14. Timm has 36 career saves for sixth all-time and ranks third in game-winning goals with seven.

 The CSB win over the Auggies was its first over a top five nationally ranked team since 2016 when they upset St. Thomas, 5-3.

Senior goaltender, Kate Moffat has a .902 saves percentage (10th, MIAC) With five career shutouts Moffat ranks fourth all-time and ranks second all-time at CSB with 20 career wins. She has a 2.80 goals against average this year. With 1,115 career saves, Moffat ranks seventh all-time.
