LA CROSSE, Wis. --
Haley Zelen continued her dominant start to the season with three individual victories, and junior
Mary Morris added another title, as the College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team turned in a strong performance despite falling, 179–114, to UW–La Crosse in dual competition Saturday.
The Bennies collected four wins and 18 top four finishes in total, highlighted by Zelen's record-setting day in the pool.
Zelen started with a win in the 50 freestyle in 23.91 seconds, improving on her previous mark of 23.97 — the third-fastest time in program history. She followed that with a victory in the 100 freestyle (53.00) and capped her day by taking first in the 100 butterfly (56.33), lowering her own school record for the fifth consecutive meet.
Morris delivered the Bennies' fourth title, winning the 200 backstroke in 2:13.26 and placing second in the 100 backstroke at 1:01.49.
Saint Benedict's relay teams added several strong performances. The 400-medley relay team of Morris, senior
Megan Bartels, Zelen, and first-year
Josey Larson finished second in 4:09.94, while another CSB squad took fourth (4:23.19). In the 200-freestyle relay, the Bennies placed second (1:46.17) and third (1:48.43) with two competitive relay squads.
Larson earned runner-up finishes in both the 200 butterfly (2:17.32) and 400 IM (5:05.55), while first-year
Bella Kern clocked a personal-best 2:40.77 for second in the 200 breaststroke. Kern also added a fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.95).
In distance events, senior
Morgan Stout led a trio of Bennies in the 1,650 freestyle, taking third in 19:25.00, followed by first-years
Izzy Green (20:03.06) and
Maddie Brynda (20:11.10). Stout later finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:36.20), less than a second off her season best. Senior
Lauren Sitzman and Bartels rounded out the top four in that event.
Green also took third in the 400 IM (5:18.56), with junior
Jayda Alholm placing fourth (5:20.99). In the 200 freestyle, sophomore
Maddie Stutelberg (2:07.42) and Alholm (2:07.88) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
On the diving boards, junior
Sadie Kraft posted 131.05 on one meter, and sophomore
