ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Senior
Chloe Lewis scored the lone goal for the College of Saint Benedict hockey team, but the Bennies (0-1) fell, 7-1, to top-ranked UW-River Falls (1-0) in a nonconference matchup Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Ritsche Center.
Lewis netted her 12th career goal in her 75th game at CSB, cutting the Falcons' early 2-0 lead in half. Sophomore
Skylar Salscheider earned the 10th assist of her career on the play, while
Greer Hardacre added her second career assist.
After holding a 2-1 deficit midway through the first period, the Bennies gave up two late goals to trail 4-1 after one. UW-River Falls added three more goals in the second period and one in the third. Megan Goodreau led the Falcons with two short-handed goals and two assists.
CSB was outshot, 26-7, overall, including 13-5 in the opening period and 7-3 in the third. St. Ben's held a 9-6 edge in shots during the second frame. In her first collegiate start,
Sam Knutson stopped 19 shots in goal.
In the face-off circle, the Bennies went 20-for-49. Lewis won 7-of-13 draws, while
Mia Lopez (5-of-10) and
Helena Siska (6-of-12) each finished at 50 percent.
St. Benedict opens MIAC play at home against the College of St. Scholastica on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. The teams complete the home-and-home series in Duluth on Friday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m.
