Rooks records two goals but CSB falls to (RV) Augsburg

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Emma Rooks scored a pair of goals but the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (7-10-2, 3-7-2 MIAC) dropped a 6-2 road MIAC decision to (RV) Augsburg (13-5-0, 9-3-0 MIAC) on Saturday (Jan. 27).

After the series loss to the Auggies, CSB dropped to 7-10-2 overall and 3-7-2 for 11 league points and seventh in the MIAC. Augsburg moved to 9-3 with 25 points for fourth in the league and 13-5 overall. The Bennies will travel to No. 13 Saint Mary's on Feb. 2-3 for a pair of road MIAC games.

Augsburg jumped to a 2-0 lead before Rooks cut the lead to 2-1 with a second period goal. Then, the Auggies added two more goals before Rooks had her second goal of the game to cut the lead to 4-2 in the third period. However, the home standing Auggies finished off the scoring with two goals in the final period.

CSB had a strong outing from Rooks, who scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season as she now has 17 career goals. With her seven goals she ranks third on the team.

Game Summary
Augsburg's Kennedy Stein opened the scoring by tallying the first of two goals on the night with an even-handed tally at 4:26 of the first period. With a power-play goal at 18:10 of the first period from Nora Stephan, who had her sixth goal of the season, Augsburg led, 2-0. Elizabeth Fagerlind (7th, season) and Emily Cronkhite (9, season) assisted on the scoring play.

Rooks answered those tallies for CSB with an even-strength goal at 13:58 with Chloe Lewis (2nd, season), and Shauna Miller, 3rd, season) assisting on the play.

Then, the Auggies had two goals from Grace Bonnell, who had her first scores of the season. At 19:35 of the second period, she had an unassisted, even strength goal. Then, she scored on a power play at 1:32 of the third period for a 4-1 lead. Kennedy Stein (7th, season) and Tenley Stewart (5th, season) had assists on Bonnell's second goal.

Rooks had her second goal of the game at 4:57 of the third period as Chloe Lewis (3rd, season) and Brooklyn Johnson (1st, season) assisted on the even-strength tally.

Augsburg converted its third power play goal at 8:18 of the third period as Stein had her 10th goal of the season off assists from Stewart (6th, season) and Malia Schubert (5th, season). Emily Cronkhite finished the scoring off with an unassisted, even-handed score at 13:42.

 The Bennies were outshot 36-to-24, including 29-to-16 in the opening two periods. Leading CSB in shots was Rooks with five while first-year Shae Stinnett had four and forwards Aurora Opsahl and Corrine Brown had three shots each.

Saint Benedict won the face-off battle for the second straight game with 33 wins on 63 attempts for 52.4 percent. Miller again led CSB with 15 wins in 23 faceoffs for 65.2 percent. In the past two nights, she has won 33-of-48 faceoffs. Chloe Lewis also fared well with nine wins in 15 faceoffs against Augsburg.

First-year CSB goaltender Delaney Norman registered 32 saves as she fell to 2-3-0 on the season. Marissa Paaske of Augsburg had 22 saves and allowed two goals as she is 4-1-0 on the season.
