EAU CLAIRE, Wis. --
Corrine Brown scored her first goal of the season but the College of Saint Benedict hockey team (0-2) dropped a 7-1 nonconference decision to UW-Eau Claire (2-0) on Saturday afternoon at the Hobbs Ice Arena.
The Bennies dropped their second straight game to the Blugolds, who also picked up a 4-3 win on Oct. 27. CSB now returns home to host UW-River Falls on Thursday, Nov. 2 at the Ritsche Arena in St. Cloud.
Brown scored her goal at 16:46 of the second period off an assist from
Ava Stinnett. However, the Blugolds held the upper hand throughout the game with a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Maddie Hulter (6:05) and Sam Bandholz (11:33). In the second period, UW-EC built a 4-0 lead on a goal by Sophie Rausch (1:30) and another by Sam Bandholz (16:02). Then, Brown had her 12th career goal as the Bennies cut the lead to 4-1. In the third period, Rausch (1:32), Madisyn Krumholz (8:18) and Hattie Verstegen (10:06) all recorded goals for the Blugolds.
UW-EC had an 81-to-31 margin in shots, including 50-to-21 in shots on goal. The Blugolds converted 3-of-10 power plays while CSB was 0-of-6. The Bennies did control face-offs by winning 42-of-70. CSB also had a 15-to-6 margin in blocked shots. Individually, CSB was led by
Shae Stinnett and
Ava Stinnett, who each had five shots, while
Jenna Timm had four shots.
