GENEVA, Ohio – In just one full year of competition, Fiona Smith has earned the title of most decorated track and field athlete in the College of Saint Benedict history.

After finishing fourth in the 10,000-meter run Thursday night to earn her first All-American honor of the weekend, Smith finished fourth again – this time in the 5,000-meter run – Saturday afternoon to wrap up her 2021-22 competition season.

Saturday's All-American honor marks Smith's third outdoor track and field All-American honor, her fifth All-American accolade this school year and sixth total. In four trips to nationals – two to the outdoor national championships, one indoor meet appearance and one trip to the NCAA Cross Country Championships – Smith has never finished outside of the top five.

Smith's latest honor comes after an impressive race on a sunny day at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. She was in second behind Loras' Kassie Parker through the two-mile mark before Wellesley's Ari Marks – who had been in third – made a move. Marks moved from third to first and never looked back as she won the race in 16:08.90. Smith held onto third until the final three laps. She finished the race in 16:28.46.

Marks completed the 5K/10K sweep with her win Saturday. Parker took second in 16:19.65 and Johns Hopkins' Ella Baran finished third in 16:20.49. Smith finished ahead of Hope's Anastasia Tucker, who took fifth in 16:36.43.

Smith is the first athlete in CSB track and field history to earn more than one All-American honor in either the indoor or outdoor season. Her four track and field All-American honors in 2022 are the most of any individual in program history. As well as earning two All-American honors and two MIAC titles in the 2022 outdoor season, Smith also set CSB records in the 1,500, 5K and 10K.
