ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After playing three doubleheaders in three days from April 8-10, the College of Saint Benedict softball team had a full week off last week thanks to weather-related cancelations and postponements. While the full week allowed the team to rest up, it also sets the Bennies up for a busy final 12 days of the regular season.

CSB starts its sprint to the finish Tuesday, April 19, when it hosts Macalester in a MIAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the CSB Softball Field at the Outdoor Athletic Complex. The doubleheader is the first of four Saint Benedict has scheduled this week, and the only home game of the week. Live stats and video are available here.

About the Scots
Macalester is 10-16 overall and 4-6 heading into Tuesday's doubleheader. After being swept by Gustavus, the Scots split with Saint Mary's on Saturday. Mackenzie Clarke leads the team and is seventh in the MIAC with 19 RBIs and Kaitlyn Postorius is sixth in the league with 60 strikeouts.

Last Meeting
CSB swept Macalester last season, winning 17-4 in five innings and 10-0 in six on April 26 in St. Paul. Tori Harren hit a two-run homer as part of the Bennies' 11 hits in the first game, and Katie Carlson had a two-run homer as part of the team's nine hits in the second-game shutout.

The Storyline
After a full week off, Saint Benedict has eight games – including seven doubleheaders – scheduled between Tuesday, April 19, and Sunday, May 1. The MIAC Tournament starts Thursday, May 5, so every game in the next two weeks is important to the MIAC standings. The Bennies hope that the week off will mean fresh arms and hot bats to kick the busy week off on a high note.

Who to Watch
The Bennie offense has at least one athlete in the top five of the MIAC standings. Gabby Spencer is second in the league in batting average (.525) and third in hits (32), and first year Megan Erickson is second with 23 RBIs. Junior pitcher Elly Novak is second in the league in ERA (0.97) and third with 98 strikeouts. She looks to become the first pitcher to reach the 100-strikeout milestone in back-to-back seasons since Rachel Nelson, who accomplished the feat in 2013 and again in 2014.
