ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict softball team is back from its successful spring break trip and looking forward to getting things started on home turf.
The Bennies play will play two doubleheaders this weekend at home, with the first doubleheader against Bethany Lutheran on Saturday, March 19 beginning at 1 p.m. at the OAC. Then the Bennies compete against Buena Vista University on Sunday, March 20, with the doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. Live stats and video are available here.
About the Vikings
The Vikings are 8-5 overall to start the season. Their last game on their spring break trip was against Husson University, which they dropped a 5-1 loss. They will also play a doubleheader against Gustavus on Wednesday evening before they travel to St. Joseph on Saturday. Kayla Senne leads the team in the circle with a 1.97 ERA. Eden Ambrose has a team-best 18 hits this season.
About the Beavers
The Beavers have begun the season with a 13-5 overall record, currently on a three-game win streak after sweeping Baldwin Wallace in a doubleheader on their spring break trip to Tucson, Ariz. Carlee Guyett leads with a team-best 27 hits. Ashtyn Miller leads in the circle with a 1.26 ERA.
Last Meeting
Saint Benedict swept the Vikings in their last doubleheader on Feb. 20, 2020, at the Saint John's dome, winning both games in five innings. Sheridan Glashan had a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to fuel a Game 1 victory of 10-2. Elly Novak struck out two and gave up only one single run on five hits to pick up her first career win in a 9-1 victory in Game 2.
The Bennies and the Beavers last met in March 2019 where CSB picked up a sweep of Buena Vista on the road. Glashan had one RBI in the 8-3 Game 1 win and added three more in the 8-4 Game 2 victory.
The Storyline
Saint Benedict looks to take their momentum from the beginning of their season and ride it steadily as they get closer to MIAC play starting in April. The Bennies are 9-1 overall after their non-conference spring break trip games in Clermont, Florida.
Who to Watch
Junior Gabby Spencer leads the Bennies with the current batting average of .600. She has had 18 hits and scored 11 runs so far this season. Elly Novak leads the pitching squad with five wins and a 0.93 ERA.
