Saint Benedict to celebrate 50 years of Title IX

10/11/2022

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX, the College of Saint Benedict will be honoring the 50 greatest and most influential student-athletes in school history in a program on Saturday, October 22, 2022. A selection committee reviewed the resumes and bios of athletes with graduation years from 1970 to 2020 and was charged with the difficult task of selection of the final 50 honorees. Each decade was considered in the context of the department and program and between seven and 13 honorees were selected per-decade.

Title IX became the law of the land in 1972, exponentially expanding possibilities for young girls and women across the United States. The world of education was changed forever. The world of athletics was changed forever. And because of this landmark legislation, the College of Saint Benedict was changed forever.

In the 50 years since that day, student-athletes have gained opportunities to proudly represent Saint Ben's in competition, to chase their dreams, accomplish their goals and become champions.
