ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a fall season of individual bests and some impressive team accomplishments, the College of Saint Benedict golf team hopes to put everything it has learned together into one three-day tournament.
 
The Bennies wrap up the fall portion of their 2021-22 schedule Saturday through Monday, Oct. 2-4, at the 2021 MIAC Championships. After brief hiatus, the conference meet is back at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids, and the men's and women's championships will run concurrently at the course. Saint Benedict tees off starting at 12:04 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 2, and tee times on Sunday and Monday will be determined by the previous day's scores.
 
Saint Benedict had some impressive moments this fall. The Bennies won the seven-team Georgianni Blugold Invite on Sept. 12 thanks in part to one of the top-10 best 18-hole team scores in program history and several individual best scores. Both Emily Renner and Grace Hillemeier shot career-best 75s in the first round of the tournament and Renner followed up with a 77 for a 152 – the fourth-best 36-hole individual score in CSB history.
 
First years Sami Boerboom and Georgia Hinton both broke into the 70s for the first time in their collegiate careers this fall. Boerboom shot a career-low 78 in the second round of the D3 Midwest Classic, and Hinton carded a 77 in the second round of the St. Kate's Invite to help CSB jump from 10^th to sixth in the team standings. Renner, Hillemeier, Boerboom and Hinton will be joined by Halle Strunk to make up the team's top five at the conference meet.
 
Hillmeier and Renner both have at least one MIAC Championship under their belts. Renner finished tied for seventh at the 2020-21 conference meet in May 2021 thanks to three straight birdies to end the tournament. Her three-round total of 233 marked the third-best in program history. Hillemeier competed at the MIAC Championships as both a sophomore and junior and finished in the top 30 at both meets.
 
As a team, Saint Benedict has finished in fifth each of the past two seasons. Prior to that, the Bennies finished runner-up in back-to-back seasons in 2017 and 2018. St. Kate's won the 2020-21 MIAC title with Gustavus in second and Carleton in third. The Knights' Kristin Miyagi returns as the individual medalist from last spring.
