CSB golf in fifth after Day 1 of MIAC Championships

Day 1 Results

HASTINGS, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict golf team is in fifth place out of eight teams after the first 18 holes of the 2020-21 MIAC Championships.
 
The Bennies spent most of the day in fourth place, but Bethel made a late move and Carleton also moved up a spot late in the day to put CSB in fifth after the first round. The Bennies wrapped up the day with a 322 – four strokes behind fourth-place Carleton (318) at Emerald Greens in Hastings.
 
St. Kate's holds the team lead after the first round with a 305. They are six strokes ahead of Gustavus, which shot a 311. Bethel – the 2019 MIAC Champions – are in third with a 317, just one stroke ahead of the Knights.
 
Individually, senior Bridget Amundson is in seventh to pace the Bennies. She finished the day five over with a 77. She started her day with a birdie on the first hole, and added a second birdie on No. 8, another par four.
 
Senior Emily Olson and first year Emily Renner are both tied for 12th after the first round. The duo shot identical 79s Friday. Renner also birdied the first hole, and also birdied No. 11, a par three. Olson tallied a birdie on the fifth hole, a par five.
 
Junior Grace Hillemeier is tied for 35th and sophomore Molly Herker is tied for 42nd to round out Saint Benedict's roster. Hillemeier shot an 87 Friday and Herker shot a 99. Herker tallied a birdie on No. 9, a par five hole.
 
Carleton's Kristin Miyagi leads the team race with a 73 after the first round, and the Wildcats' Sydney Brown and Jaycee Rhodes are tied for second with 74s.
 
The Bennies start Round 2 at 11:40 a.m. Saturday at Emerald Greens. Live results will once again be available here.
