ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After an up and down shortened 2021 season, the College of Saint Benedict basketball team gets one more chance to compete on its home court when Concordia comes to St. Joe for the second time this season.
The two teams – who both were short games when opponents had to cancel due to COVID protocols – meet for the third time at 6 p.m. Friday, March 12 in Claire Lynch. Per MIAC policy no fans are allowed, but live video and stats are available
here.
Friday marks the final collegiate basketball game for the team's lone senior,
Maddie Schmitz.
ABOUT THE COBBERS
After having to pause their season for a second time due to COVID protocols, the Cobbers haven't played since Feb. 27 heading into Friday's game. Concordia looks to end the season on a high note after falling to Hamline and Gustavus to wrap up February. Mary Sem is fourth in the MIAC in scoring (15.0) and Elizabeth Birkemeyer is eighth with six rebounds per game.
LAST MEETING
CSB and Concordia split their first two meetings this season, with each team winning on its home court. On Feb. 10 in Moorhead, the Bennies made a big fourth-quarter comeback before falling 82-78 on the road.
Maddie Schmitz had 22 points and 10 rebounds and
Carla Meyer finished with 12 points and a then career-high eight assists. Schmitz had a career-best 25 points and 18 rebounds when the teams first met on Feb. 3.
THE STORYLINE
Concordia and CSB are familiar opponents this season, and the Bennies look to use home court advantage to wrap up their season with a win. The team also looks to pick up its offense after having just two players score double digits against the Auggies.
