ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team is looking to turn things around after a close loss to 22
nd-ranked St. Thomas Saturday afternoon. CSB travels to Winona Wednesday, Jan. 15, to take on MIAC opponent Saint Mary's. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
About the Cardinals
Saint Mary's is 1-11 overall this season and 1-6 in MIAC play. SMU beat MIAC opponent Macalester College 70-68 in OT to snag their first win on Dec. 11. Coming into Wednesday's game, the Cardinals are on a six-game losing streak, although the team's last game against Hamline was lost by two points in overtime. Shayley Vesel leads the Cardinals with 205 points overall, averaging 17.1 per game. Brooklyn Paulson is right behind her with 170 points and averaging 14.2 per game.
Last Meeting
These two teams played each other in the middle of the season last year and CSB fell short, losing 66-60.
Megan Thompson had 21 points for the Bennies and
Alex Johnson had 13. Saint Mary's also beat CSB 77-51 on Dec. 12 in Claire Lynch last year. Overall CSB is 44-12 against the Cardinals and 22-6 on the road, averaging 70.8 points per game against SMU.
The Storyline
Both teams are coming into the game on a six-game losing streak. CSB is hoping to get a win to help the team stay above .500. Heading into the game, the Bennies are 6-6 overall and 2-5 in MIAC play. A win on Wednesday will give the Bennies momentum going into their game on Saturday, Jan. 18 where they host No. 13 Bethel University.

Megan Thompson is leading the Bennies in points with 134, averaging 12.2 per game.
Alex Johnson is only five behind her with 129 points and averaging 10.8 per game. Johnson is also leading the team with 108 rebounds and
Maddie Schmitz is next for the team with 60. Johnson is second in the MIAC with 9.0 rebounds per game.
