04/19/2019

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a pair of weekday doubleheaders, the College of Saint Benedict softball team is ready to take advantage of Easter break to play two more MIAC doubleheaders. CSB travels to Northfield Saturday to take on Carleton College at 1 p.m., then heads to Moorhead Monday for a 2 p.m. makeup date with Concordia.

About the Knights
Carleton is third in the MIAC heading into the weekend with a 9-5 mark, and set the school record for wins in a season with 23 after sweeping Macalester last weekend. The Knights are 23-8 overall and have won six of their last eight games, with their only loss coming to St. Thomas. Maris Daleo is second in the MIAC with 48 hits and Natalie Maurice is fourth with 29 RBIs. On the mound, Sam Kile is fourth in the league with a 1.67 ERA in more than 100 innings pitched. She has 78 strikeouts.

About the Cobbers
Heading into the weekend, Concordia is at the bottom of the MIAC with a 1-11 conference record, and headed into Friday looking to snap a nine-game losing streak. The Cobbers are 8-18 overall. Maria Pake leads the team with a .405 batting average and 34 hits, and both Nicole Johannes and Madison Kosteleck have 12 RBIs. Megan Gavin leads the team on the mound with a 2.82 ERA, eight wins and 121 strikeouts.

The Storyline
Heading into the weekend, CSB has three MIAC doubleheaders left to play. After Monday's games, the team will have a single MIAC doubleheader left in the 2019 regular season. Saint Benedict looks to take advantage of those games to move up from its current spot in sixth in the conference and into contention for the four-team conference tournament.

Who to Watch
Sophomore Ally Hjort has been solid on the mound. She threw a one-hitter against Augsburg and three-hitters against both Bethel and Saint Mary's this week. First year Grace Gilmore is currently second in the league with a 1.58 ERA. Senior Kate Deming continues to impress at the plate, and is fourth in the conference with 47 hits.
