COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. –
Mikayla Von Wahlde swept the backstroke races Saturday afternoon to pace the College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team in a dual loss to Gustavus. The Gusties won 13 of 16 events at the dual, which was split with swimming at the Palaestra Pool at SJU and the diving in St. Peter.
Von Wahlde took first in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.28 and the 200 backstroke in 2:13.47. Junior diver
Mallory Jarvi also came away with a win Saturday, taking first in the three-meter diving competition with a 367.90. Each diver completed 11 dives. Jarvi also took second in the one-meter competition with a 382.15 and
Maggie Pomerenke was third with a 380.70.
Lauren Christiansen finished right behind Von Wahlde in the 100 backstroke, taking second in 1:04.25. She took third in the 200 back in 2:17.83.
Ashley Groebner finished third in both the 100 breaststroke (1:09.30) and the 200 breaststroke (2:33.67), and
Ana Birklid finished second in the 400 IM in 2:55.05. Von Wahlde, Groebner, Birklid and
Zoe Allyson took second in the 200 medley relay in 1:54.92.
A handful of CSB swimmers finished fourth for the team Saturday afternoon.
Morgan Gerhardt took fourth in the 500 free (5:40.16) and the 1,000 free (11:34.08), and
Brenna Sharp took fourth in the 100 fly in 1:05.60. Allyson took fourth in the 50 free (26.25) and Birklid finished fourth in the 100 free (56.97).
Saturday marked the final dual meet of the season for CSB, which wraps up its pre-MIAC schedule next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2, at the UST Conference Invite. The divers are also competing Saturday at the St. Cloud State Diving Invite. The 2019 MIAC Championships are Feb. 14-17 at the U of M Aquatic Center in Minneapolis.
