CSB basketball gets back to MIAC action

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team gets back to MIAC action when they host Augsburg University. CSB plays Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 7 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall. 
 
About the Auggies
Augsburg  last played on Dec. 15, when they lost to Trinity University 59-55. The auggies are 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the MIAC. Tamira McLemore leads the team with 14.8 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game. Aiza Wilson is fifth in the MIAC with a .423 three point percentage on 71 attempts. 
 
Last Meeting
CSB defeated Augsburg twice last year, 59-45 at Augsburg and 74-58 in St. Joseph. At Augsburg, Niki Fokken finished with 15 points and seven rebounds to lead CSB and Schmitz and Chelsey Guetter each added 10 points. At CSB, Fokken finished with 22 points to pace Saint Benedict, which shot just under 52 percent from the field. Megan Thompson added 18 points and Kate Banovetz finished with 10. Fokken also had seven rebounds and Thompson and Banovetz had five assists.
 
The Storyline
CSB is 1-3 in conference play and 2-4 at home this season. St. Benedicts looks to defend their home court and get back in the conference win column over MIAC leading Augsburg. Last weekend CSB traveled to Nashville for a pair of wins over Husson University (60-42) and St. Norbert College (62-28). Saint Benedict looks to carry their momentum in to 2019. After Augsburg CSB returns to the road Jan. 5 when traveling to Macalester College.
 
Who To Watch
Megan Thompson currently leads the team in scoring at 13.0 points per game, and Maddie Schmitz (12.0) and Alex Johnson (8.1) are also key on the offensive end. Johnson leads the team with 7.6 rebounds per game followed by Schmitz with 6.3 per game. Sidney Schiffler is shooting .368 from three and leads the team with 31 assists.
