ST. PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swim and dive team got its 2019 off to a solid start Friday evening with a MIAC dual win against Hamline. CSB won seven individual events and one relay to pick up a 156-73 victory in the conference dual in St. Paul, Minn.
"The team did a great job racing and diving tonight," head coach
Dan Eckberg said. "We are coming off training trip and Christmas break so it's tough to jump back into competition mode, but we did a great job with that (Friday)."
Saint Benedict swept the top three spots in four individual events Friday. First year
Ana Birklid and junior
Mallory Jarvi both won a pair of events to pace the team. Birklid started her evening with a win in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.40, and she also won the 100 freestyle in 57.11 seconds. Jarvi won both the one- and three-meter diving competitions. She won the one-meter competition with a score of 227.15 and the three-meter board with a mark of 251.00.
Morgan Gerhardt picked up a win in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:34.73.
Lauren Christiansen won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.09,
Allie Crum won the 500 free in 5:42.93 and Birklid,
Claudia Mahoney, Gerhardt and
Skyler Clough won the 200 free relay in 1:48.14.
Crum also finished second in the 1,000 free in 11:48.33 and Davis finished second in the 200 free in 2:10.86.
Hannah Svihel took second in the 200 IM in 2:29.35, Clough finished second in the 100 fly in 1:07.52 and
Zoe Allyson took second in the 50 free in 26.32 seconds.
Lisa Pahr took second in the one-meter diving competition with a mark of 190.85, and
Kathryn Ellingson took second on the three-meter board with a score of 182.4. Ellingson also took third on the three-meter board. Mahoney took second in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.82. Christiansen,
Sydney Dugas,
Grace Livermore and Allyson finished second in the 200 medley relay in 2:00.77.
Saint Benedict has a quick turnaround as it competes right away Saturday, Jan. 12, at the St. Thomas Invite. Diving starts at 10 a.m. and swimming events start at 1 p.m. in St. Paul.
