CSB starts busy week with two MIAC doubleheaders

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After a one-day breather following a pair of MIAC doubleheaders this weekend, the College of Saint Benedict softball team is back at it with two more doubleheaders Tuesday and Wednesday to kick off a busy eight-day stretch.

Saint Benedict hosts Hamline at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, in a makeup game from earlier this season. Then, CSB travels to St. Paul to take on Macalester in a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader. After Wednesday, CSB is at St. Olaf on Saturday, at Saint Mary's Monday, April 30, and at St. Kate's to wrap up the regular season Tuesday, May 1.

About the Pipers
Hamline comes into Tuesday's doubleheader 13-11 overall and 6-4 in the MIAC and looking to snap a two-game losing streak after dropping two games to Augsburg on Sunday. Prior to the losses, the Pipers had won four straight. Aubree Douglas had a huge week last week, batting .700 and is currently first in the MIAC with a .479 batting average. On the mound, Alex Malloy is fifth in the MIAC with a 2.63 ERA.

About the Scots
As of Monday afternoon, Macalester was 9-23 overall and 3-11 in the conference with a doubleheader against Carleton on the schedule for Tuesday. The Scots went into Tuesday's games looking to snap a five-game losing streak. Pitcher Sophie Migacz is third in the MIAC with 71 strikeouts, and Julia Carpenter leads the team with a .385 batting average.

Last Year
CSB split with Hamline last season and swept the Scots. Saint Benedict lost 4-3 to Hamline in Game 1 before winning the second game 10-4 in St. Paul. The Pipers had an RBI single in the sixth to pull ahead for the win. Kate Deming had a two-run single and Megan Toninato hit a two-run double as part of a five-run sixth inning in the second game. Emilie Antony had two hits and four RBIs in the team's 9-1, six-inning win in the first game against the Scots, and Alex Smith had a two-run double in the 7-0, second-game win.

The Storyline
CSB's winning streak ended at nine Sunday against Carleton, and the team looks to get back in the W column and maintain its spot at the top of the MIAC. After Sunday's games, Saint Benedict is third in the MIAC, just behind St. Kate's. Hamline looks to move up in the standings as it is currently just outside the top four, and Macalester looks to get its season back on track and add a few more wins to its total.

Who to Watch
First year lefty Ally Hjort is quickly making a name for herself. She earned MIAC Pitcher of the Week honors after throwing her first career no hitter and not giving up a single run in 19.2 innings of work last week. Her ERA of 0.67 is top 10 in Division III. Senior Megan Toninato stayed hot at the plate, batting .529 last week. She leads the MIAC with 42 hits, and Emilie Antony leads the team with 26 RBIs. Kendra Swanson, Karlee Pfaff and Claire Boatman each added a home run to their season totals this past week.
