Hockey Travels North to Concordia for Pair of Games

ST.JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team heads north for a pair of games at Concordia College in Moorhead on Jan. 19 and Jan. 20. The teams will faceoff at 7 p.m. on Friday night, followed by a 2 p.m. matchup on Saturday afternoon.

About Concordia
Concordia is looking to rebound after a weekend split with Saint Mary's ended their three-game winning streak in MIAC play. The Cobbers earned a 6-3 victory Friday night, but were unable to hold a lead in Saturday's series finale and were edged out 3-2 by the Cardinals. Concordia owns a 7-6-2 overall record, and is tied for fourth in the MIAC with a 4-2-2 conference record.

The Cobbers are lead offensively by sophomore Amanda Flemming's 19 points, which are constituted of 10 goals and nine assists. Senior Tori Davis is close behind with seven goals and five assists, and a team leading four power-play goals. The Cobbers have been running with two goaltenders for the season, as sophomore Amy Jost and junior Brittany Boss have nearly identical statistics thus far. Jost has a 3.10 goals against average, .884 save percentage, and has allowed 22 goals in her eight games played. Boss boasts a 3.38 goals against average, .888 save percentage and has allowed four more goals than Jost in her nine games.

Last Year
Concordia swept the season series last year, but by the narrowest margins. The Cobbers used a five goal first period to route to a 6-2 win in the first game of the series, but CSB rallied to force overtime in the second game. In a game that saw six power-play goals, the second game of the series was a melee of scoring. CSB struck first and would get to an eventual 4-2 lead, before the Cobbers used three third period power-play goals and an even strength goal to jump ahead to 6-4 lead with just five minutes to play. But two CSB goals in the closing five minutes, including the game tying goal from Brigitte Miller with just 47 second to play would send the game to overtime. The Cobbers would score in the closing minute of overtime play to clinch the 7-6 victory.

Who to Watch
Senior captain Brigitte Miller continues to lead by example for CSB, leading the team with five goals and four assists. Close behind her is Courtney Conlin who has the hot hand as of late, registering all three of her goals in the last four games. Also towards the top of the stats sheet is the Schneider sisters, with Riley Schneider registering two goals and four assists, while older sister Shelby Schneider has registered a pair of goals and assists. First year goaltender Kailee Medved earned both starts last weekend against Bethel, and notched her first collegiate victory in the team's 3-2 win on Jan. 11. Medved has 184 saves on the season and an impressive .911 save percentage in her seven games.

The Storyline
Saint Benedict continues to boast an incredibly balanced offensive attack on the season. 16 CSB players have at least one point on the season, with fifteen of those players having at least one goal. As a testament to the balance of the team's scoring only six players have multiple goals, showcasing the ability to share the glory. All active skaters have registered a shot on goal, with fifteen having 10-plus and five players with over 30 shots on opponent's goals.
