CSB softball looks to stay hot

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict softball team continues its MIAC season this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders. On Saturday, CSB travels to St. Peter for a doubleheader against Gustavus Adolphus College starting at 1 p.m. The Blazers then host their second home doubleheader of the season on Sunday against Augsburg College in St. Joseph at 1 p.m.
 
About the Gusties:
The Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties come into Saturday's matchup against the Blazers after starting the season 14-8, and a MIAC record of 2-4. The Gusties will be coming into the matchup after hosting St. Scholastica Friday afternoon. Hannah Heacox leads the team with a .356 batting average and leads the pitchers with second-most strikeouts in the MIAC with 97 strikeouts this season. Jenna Willis is third in the MIAC with a 1.57 ERA in 58 innings pitched.
 
About the Auggies:
The Augsburg College Auggies come into Sunday's matchup against the Blazers after starting the season 14-10, and they are 2-4 in the MIAC. Augsburg faces off against Carleton on Saturday before taking on CSB on Sunday. Carly Dropik leads the team with a .512 on-base percentage and has two home runs. Samantha Anderson is fifth in the MIAC with eight wins and 74 strike outs.
 
Who to Watch:
Sara Wennerstrand and Megan Toninato will be looking to stay hot at the plate leading the team with .431 and .437 batting average. Wennerstrand has a .639 slugging percentage, and is tied for fourth in the MIAC with three home runs. Toninato also leads the team with a .500 on-base percentage. Emilie Antony is first in the MIAC with 27 RBIs and has a .611 slugging percentage. Kate Deming is third in the MIAC with 19 stolen bases and leads the team with 31 runs scored. Kiela DeVlaeminck leads the pitchers with a 2.54 ERA, a record of 6-1, 49.2 innings pitched and 44 strikeouts.
 
Last Time Out:
On Wednesday, the Blazers played a double header against Carleton College in Northfield. The Blazers beat Carleton 5-1 and 8-2. The Blazers racked up 20 hits in the doubleheader. Wennerstrand and Toninato both had three hits on the day, and Alex Smith threw a two-run complete game.
 
The Storyline:
The Blazers look to improve their 17-5 record as they continue their conference season, carried by an offense that averages 7.8 runs per game. After not making the playoffs last year, the Blazers look to stay in first place and undefeated in the MIAC season with hopes of improving on a 10-12 conference record.
