CSB, Hamline set to clash in MIAC matchup

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict softball team continues its MIAC season this week with a doubleheader against one of the top teams in the league. On Wednesday, CSB travels to St. Paul for a doubleheader against Hamline University in a showdown of two of the teams vying for the league's regular-season title starting at 3:30 p.m.

About the Pipers:
The Hamline University Pipers come into Wednesday's matchup against the Blazers after starting the season 14-10, and a MIAC record of 9-3. The Pipers, who have won four of their last five games, come into the matchup after splitting a doubleheader with Bethel on Thursday afternoon. Chelsea Koehn leads the team with a .446 batting average and a .676 slugging percentage. Aubree Douglas leads the team with a .519 on-base percentage. Casey Anderson leads the pitchers with a 3.59 ERA in 77.2 innings pitched and Sarah DeMars has 54 strikeouts.

Who to Watch:
Sara Wennerstrand is fifth in the MIAC with a .447 batting average and is first with 35 runs batted in. Megan Toninato leads the team with a .486 on-base percentage, and is fourth in the MIAC with 15 steals. Emilie Antony is third in the MIAC with 32 RBIs and has a .598 slugging percentage. Kate Deming is second in the MIAC with 24 stolen bases and leads the team with 38 runs scored. Kiela DeVlaeminck leads the pitchers with a 2.47 ERA, a record of 9-2, 76.2 innings pitched and 61 strikeouts.

Last Time Out:
On Monday, the Blazers played a double header at Bethel University in St. Paul. The Blazers lost the first game 10-5 and won the second game 10-1 in six innings. The Blazers racked up 21 hits in the doubleheader. Toninato had six hits on the day, and DeVlaeminck threw a one-run complete game.

The Storyline:
The Blazers look to improve their 23-7 record as they continue their conference season, carried by an offense that averages 7.3 runs per game. After not making the playoffs last year and the right to host the conference tournament on the line as the season winds down, the Blazers look to build on their lead in the MIAC as they face off against the second-place Pipers.
