CSB travels to Iowa for two doubleheaders

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict softball team travels to Pella, Iowa, this weekend for a pair of nonconference doubleheaders. Due to forecasted rain, the team's schedule has changed slightly: instead of playing four single games against three different teams, CSB plays a doubleheader at Simpson starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 25, in Indianola, Iowa, and a noon doubleheader at Central College Sunday, March 26, in Pella, Iowa.
 
About the Storm:
The Simpson College Storm will be coming into Saturday's matchup against the Blazers after starting the season 5-13, and they are 5-13 at neutral sites. The Storm will be looking to break a four-game losing streak. Kaleigh Snyder is batting .315 with 17 hits to lead the Storm, and she also has 11 stolen bases.
 
About the Dutch:
The Central College Dutch will be coming into Sunday's matchup against the Blazers after starting the season 13-3, and are hosting their first home games this weekend. Central is currently ranked 22nd in Division III. Tabitha Taylor leads the team with 24 hits and is batting .490 in 16 games played.
 
Who to Watch:
Sara Wennerstrand will be looking to stay hot at the plate leading the team with a .438 batting average and .688 slugging percentage. Wennerstrand is fifth in the MIAC with 14 RBIs and leads the MIAC with three home runs. Emilie Antony leads the MIAC with 17 RBIs. Kate Deming is third in the MIAC with 12 stolen bases and leads the team with 21 runs scored. Kiela DeVlaeminck leads the pitchers with a 2.46 ERA, record of 4-0, 31.1 innings pitched and 30 strikeouts.
 
Last Time Out:
Over spring break, the Blazers traveled to Clermont, Fla., for 14 games in seven days. CSB went 10-2 in varsity games, and won seven straight at one point on its trip. CSB notably beat #21 ranked Manhattanville College 4-3 on March 11. CSB started its spring break trip by using 34 hits to score 30 runs in wins over Heidelberg and Emmanuel.
 
The Storyline:
The Blazers will look to improve their 11-3 record in the nonconference season, carried by an offense that averages 7.7 runs per game. The Blazers start the MIAC season next week when traveling to Concordia College on April 1 for a doubleheader.
