CSB wraps up regular season at Saint Mary’s

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team has already clinched home-court advantage in the MIAC postseason tournament, and looks to build momentum Saturday, Feb. 18, when it travels to Saint Mary's University in Winona. Game time is set for 1 p.m. as CSB looks to improve on its 10-7 conference record.
 
About Saint Mary's
Saint Mary's is 13-11 overall and 7-10 in the MIAC and seventh in league standings heading into Saturday's game. The Cardinals' latest game was a 77-66 loss against St. Thomas on Wednesday night. Brandi Blattner leads the team with 14.5 points per game and is second in the MIAC with 9.6 rebounds per game. Emma Schaefer leads the league with 116 assists this season, and she also averages 10.6 points per game. Alexa Huisman is fifth in the MIAC with 44 made 3-pointers this season.
 
Last Matchup
CSB and Saint Mary's faced off once already this season, and the Blazers won the matchup. On Jan. 14, CSB Won 47-45 in St. Joseph. Chelsey Guetter had career-highs with 17 points and 16 rebounds in the victory. The Blazers went 17-for-26 from the free-throw line compared to the Cardinals' 6-for-10. Saint Benedict went 0-2 against St. Mary's last season.

Chelsey Guetter leads the team with 10.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game and Fokken averages 9.2 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game. Fokken is second in the MIAC with 45 blocks this season. Saint Benedict heads into Saturday's game after a 66-48 win at Hamline on Wednesday night. Guetter scored 12 points and had nine rebounds in the win. Fokken had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Megan Schroder had 11 points off the bench in 16 minutes played.  CSB is currently fourth in the MIAC with one game left in the regular season.
 
The Storyline
CSB has just two losses at home this season, but has struggled on the road with a record of 4-8. CSB, which got off to a hot start to the 2016-17 season, looks to build momentum with a win this week. The Blazers, fourth in the league standings, clinched home-court advantage earlier this week. Saint Mary's, on the other hand, has a shot at a spot in the six-team postseason tournament with a win this weekend. Looking ahead, CSB will be back at home for the MIAC quarterfinals Wednesday, Feb. 22.
