Live Stats/VideoST. JOSEPH, Minn. –The College of Saint Benedict softball team is coming off of a split doubleheader earlier this week at St. Mary's. Sunday, the Blazers will be at home to face off against Gustavus in a MIAC doubleheaders. The game starts at 1 p.m. at the CSB softball field.
CSB was also scheduled to host Carleton Saturday, April 9, but due to forecasted cold temperatures along with strong winds, that game has been postponed to Monday, April 25, starting at 3:30 p.m. at the CSB softball field.
About the Gusties: The Gustavus Gusties will be coming into the doubleheader against the Blazers with a 10-6 record to start the season, and 1-1 in MIAC play. Last season the Gusties had an overall record of 34-16, and were 16-6 in the MIAC. Heather Heacox leads the Gusties on the mound with seven wins and 72 strikeouts. Nathalee Boissiere leads the team with a .372 batting average.
Last Year: In a double header last year the Blazers split with Gustavus in the two teams' only meeting of the season. In the first of two, the Blazers only had four hits, and were shutout 8-0. In the second game the Blazers won 4-3.
Sara Wennerstrand had a solo homer to start the scoring for CSB in the win.
The Storyline: The Blazers will look to improve their 13-7 record. As they head into their matchup against the Knights and Gusties, they will be looking to stay on track as they get into the heart of the conference season.
Who to Watch:
Megan Toninato will be looking to stay hot at the plate leading the team with a .456 batting average and fourth overall in the MIAC. She also leads the conference with 31 hits and
Kate Deming is second with 28.
Sara Wennerstrand leads the MIAC and is 16
th in Division III with 34 RBIs. Deming leads the MIAC with 12 stolen bases on the season.
Last Time Out: The Blazers split wins in a doubleheader against Saint Mary's on Wednesday. The five-run fifth inning by the Cardinals was too much for the Blazers and Saint Mary's took the first game by a score of 9-5. In the second game, the Blazers heated the bats up for 11 hits and an exciting three-run seventh inning. The Blazers won the second game by a score of 5-3.
Kiela DeVlaeminck pitched a complete game for the Blazers in their win.
Deming, Toninato, Courtney Wissbaum, and Madison Mikolich all had three hits on the day and Toninato finished with four RBIs.
