ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict softball team continues its busy week with a pair of MIAC doubleheaders this weekend. Saturday the Blazers will be on the road at St. Olaf, and Sunday the Blazers are back at home to face off in a doubleheader against Bethel. The games will start at 1 p.m. both days.
About the Oles and Royals: The St. Olaf Oles will be coming into the matchup against the Blazers after starting the season 7-10, and they are 2-6 in MIAC play. The Bethel Royals will be coming into the doubleheader against the Blazers with a 10-12 record to start the season, and 5-3 in MIAC play. Last season the Royals had an overall record of 28-15, and were 18-4 in the MIAC. Last season the Oles had an overall record of 15-25, and were 10-12 in the MIAC.
Last Year: CSB split with both the Royals and Oles last season. After beating Bethel 3-1 in the first game last season in St. Paul, the Royals came back to win the second game 9-2. The Blazers lost their first game 7-4 to St. Olaf in St. Joseph, but won the second game by the same score.
The Storyline: The Blazers will look to improve their 17-9 record and continue their move up the MIAC standings. As they head into their matchup against the Oles and Royals, they will be looking to stay on track as they continue into the heart of the conference season.
Who to Watch:
Megan Toninato will be looking to stay hot at the plate leading the team with a .414 batting average and fourth overall in the MIAC with 23 RBIs.
Sara Wennerstrand leads the MIAC with 40 RBIs.
Kate Deming is second in the MIAC with 16 stolen bases on the season.
Kiela DeVlaeminck leads the pitchers with a record of 7-3, 79.1 innings pitched and 41 strikeouts.
Last Time Out: CSB picked up its fourth straight win and second straight MIAC sweep Thursday when it swept Augsburg 8-4 and 12-1 in six innings. Four different Blazers hit homer to lead the CSB offense.
Kate Deming and
Karlee Pfaff both hit the first homers of their Blazer careers,
Nicole Nelson hit her second homer in as many games and
Sara Wennerstrand hit a two-run shot, marking her fourth homer of the season.
Claire Haddick picked up both wins on the mound and struck out five batters.
