Live Stats/VideoST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict softball team is coming off of an 8-4 spring break trip in Clermont, Fla. The Blazers were scheduled to host a pair of doubleheaders this weekend to kick off their home season, but due to projected cold weather Saturday, CSB plays on nonconference doubleheader Sunday. CSB hosts St. Scholastica at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at the CSB softball field.
CSB was also scheduled to host Concordia in the two teams' first MIAC games of the year, but due to projected cold weather, that doubleheader has been postponed to Tuesday, April 12. The first game starts at 3:30 p.m.
About the Saints: The St. Scholastica Saints will be coming into the matchup against the blazers after starting the season 7-9. Last season the Saints had an overall record of 31-16, and were 21-0 in the UMAC. Maggie Schley leads the Saints in hits, batting average and RBIs, and is also the team's top pitcher with a 1.87 ERA and a 3-2 record.
Last Year: This is the first time St. Scholastica and CSB have played in softball since at least 2009. The two teams were scheduled to play in 2014, but the games were canceled due to bad weather.
The Storyline: The Blazers will look to improve their 11-5 record. As they head into their matchup against the Saints, they will be looking to get off on the right foot in the start of the conference season. After 12 games in eight days over spring break the Blazers look to be tuned up for the main stretch of the season and have a chance to extend their three game winning streak.
Who to Watch:
Megan Toninato will be looking to stay hot at the plate leading the team with a .444 batting average. MIAC Athlete of the Week
Sara Wennerstrand leads the MIAC with 32 RBIs. First year
Madison Mikolich leads all first years with .429 batting average, six RBIs and one home-run.
Cassie Meyer leads the pitchers 2.00 ERA and 6-2 record.
Last Time Out: The Blazers beat the Thomas Terriers 9-1 in their final spring break game. The Blazers started out the game cold at the plate, not scoring a run until the third inning. The Blazers then put up nine runs in four innings. Thomas put up one run in the second inning and were held to four hits.
Victoria Ofsthun pitched a complete game for the Blazers. She gave up one earned run on four hits and four strikeouts. Wennerstrand had three RBIs on two hits.
Kate Deming and
Megan Toninato both scored three times, and Mikolich hit the first homer of her college career.
