CSB basketball hits the road to take on St. Kate's

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict basketball team lost to conference opponent Saint Mary's last week, and CSB looks to get back on track Wednesday on the road. With a record of 14-7, the Blazers will be back in St. Paul to take on the St. Catherine Wildcats for their 11th consecutive MIAC game. The game takes places at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, in St. Paul.
 
About the Wildcats: The Wildcats started out their season with a record of 7-3 through their first 10 games on the season, including a victory over MIAC-leading St. Thomas. From there, they have gone 3-8 and are 4-10 in conference play. The Wildcats will be heading into the game against the Blazers coming off of a 77-72 non-conference win over UW-Superior. LaShay Holt leads the conference in scoring at 16.9 points per game.

Last Season: The Blazers swept St. Kate's last season, beating the Wildcats 73-70 on Dec. 13, 2014, at St. Catherine and 73-62 on Jan. 31, 2015, at CSB. In the first meeting Annie Dittberner finished with nine points and in the two teams' second meeting Dittberner and Alison Newton had nine points each and Kate Banovetz had 13 rebounds. 

The Storyline: The Blazers have now gone 9-5 thus far through the MIAC season. They will be looking to improve their away record of 8-2. St. Catherine will be heading into this matchup coming off of a win over UW-Superior after three straight conference losses. CSB is tied with Bethel for fifth in the MIAC with four games remaining in the season.

What to Watch: Niki Fokken currently leads the Blazers with 10.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Annie Dittberner averages another 8.6 points per game and Alison Newton averages 2.6 assists and 8.6 points per game. Grace Wolhowe is currently leading the MIAC with a .468 three-point percentage.

Last Time Out: In their last game, the Blazers lost to St. Mary's by a score of 61-53. In the first quarter, the Cardinals showed impressive shooting led by Bridget Pethke with 11 points to take a 17-14 lead. The Cardinals edged out the Blazers in the second quarter to end the half up 31-26. In the third quarter the Blazers turned the ball over seven times to help extend the Cardinals' lead. The Blazers entered the final quarter down by nine points. The Blazers outscored the Cardinals in the final quarter 11-10, but it was not enough to get the win. Newton led the Blazers with 13 points. Fokken added 10 points and set a new career-high with 16 rebounds.
